Women’s healthcare services at Praxis Medical
Breast health
Getting a breast exam on a regular basis is important to ensure you’re catching potential health issues early and rule out cancer risks. Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death among women in Australia. However, early detection and treatment leads to a much higher rate of survival. While you should get your breasts checked semi-regularly (once every two years), you should book in a screening if you notice certain signs like lumps, pain, infections, or changes in shape.
Gynaecological concerns
If you’re experiencing symptoms such as pain, itchiness, or unusual discharge, it may be a sign of gynaecological issues. This could be due to a number of causes including infection, hormonal imbalances, or some other underlying condition. We can help to diagnose the issue in order to find the best treatment options to get you feeling like yourself again.
Perimenopause and menopause management
Perimenopause and menopause present many challenges, so we offer support by helping you manage these changes, no matter what stage of life and health you’re in. Symptoms can manifest in a variety of ways including night sweats, disturbed sleep, sudden hot flashes, and significant mood changes. Most women will experience some of these symptoms during menopause and we are able to provide helpful advice to handle them.
At Praxis, we offer structured health consults that work hand-in-hand with standard consulting. We provide menopause and perimenopause health assessments that include a focused 50 minutes between our practice nurse and your usual GP. This allows us to dig deep on your symptoms and figure out the optimal treatment option for you. We then schedule regular follow-up appointments with our nurse practitioners as often as someone needs to feel completely supported on their journey.
Prenatal, antenatal & post-partum care
We offer a range of services to help support women during every stage of the pregnancy process. Our pre-pregnancy health checks are important to help women who are planning pregnancy to optimise their health before fertility support. Because pregnancy doesn’t always ‘just happen’, we also provide comprehensive antenatal care for the first 20 weeks of pregnancy to ensure that expectant mothers have all their tests, scans, and health checks done before they see an obstetrics team.
When it comes to the birthing process, we offer epidural services for both natural birth and planned c-sections. Then, afterwards, we continue to provide post-natal health and support for mothers and their babies for the fourth trimester and onwards.
Enhanced skins checks
Our nurse and GP team are able to provide comprehensive skin assessments for our patients. Their advanced training in dermatoscopy lets them use MoleMax technology to capture images for long-term comparison of skin lesions and changes. They are supported by a team of GPs who are able to surgically manage any skin lesions or cancers that have been identified. This provides our patients with enhanced skin healthcare without the need to travel.
Mental health
At Praxis, we are able to provide our patients with mental health care plans that allow access to Medicare rebates for allied health services. Additionally, we offer regular monitoring with our GPs who have additional training in mental health and consistent follow-ups with our nurse practitioners. We also have onsite clinical psychology that can be booked with or without a GP referral, supporting a full range of conditions including depression, anxiety, post-natal depression, PTSD, trauma recovery etc.
Contraception advice
There are a variety of contraceptive options available to women and we can help to guide you through these by discussing the advantages, side-effects, and long-term outcomes of the different methods. This will help you to make an informed choice and pick the option that really works best for you.
Period symptoms
Period-related symptoms and issues are often painful, stressful, and challenging for women to deal with. Some common concerns in this area include period pain, heavy periods, irregular periods, and endometriosis. At Praxis, our healthcare professionals work to understand exactly what our patients are experiencing to find the root of these issues and provide the most effective solution.
